Creepy Cute October

Happy Halloween!!! 🎃

Halloween ranks as one my absolute favorite holidays. The combination of the spooky decorations, cooler weather, scary movies, and pumpkin everything brings back such vivid memories from my childhood. We had a ceramic candy bowl shaped like a ghost, and it would light up and howl the classic “OooOooOOO” ghost noises when you reached in to snag some candy. Now that my oldest daughter is old enough to understand the concept of Halloween, I’ve been so excited to share some of my favorite spooky season traditions with her, from popcorn balls to jack-o-lanterns… although our jack-o-lanterns literally melted on our front porch a few days ago. Is it me or do they just not make pumpkins like they used to???

Everyone in the creative community knows that October is the season for ink drawing challenges, better known as Inktober. I was excited to participate in one this year but wanted to inject some color, since I’m sure you’re very aware ink isn’t my thing. So, why not host my own - and that’s how #CreepyCuteOctober was born!

I created this list of prompts and asked my followers to join along. While I don’t expect anyone to participate, I was blown away by the response! SO many talented artists created incredible artwork, and the hashtag currently has over 2000 posts. SPOOKTACULAR!

October was a rough month for my family - both my husband and I tested positive for Covid-19. Working a full-time job remotely, caring for 2 children under the age of 3, and not feeling 100%… You can imagine it wasn’t the kind of environment that would foster creativity. There were days where I struggled through the challenge, and in the end, I only completed 29/31 days. Which is like - hey! I had Covid! So I shouldn’t be hard on myself. Gotta say - I am looking forward to taking a short break from social media next month.

Alright! Do y’all wanna see these pieces or what???
